Venue of the month - September '10
Village Inn - Pitshanger Lane
Pitshanger Lane's The Village Inn is the latest shop in this popular area of north Ealing to upgrade their disabled access. Formerly known as Duffy's, The Village Inn has invested in a permanent cement ramp as part of a programme to become fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. Currently, there is no accessible toilet, but there are plans to install one in the near future. Visitors should go to the Lindfield Road entrance in order to use the ramp access. Although there is no level access from here to the bar when inside, drink orders can be taken in the restaurant area and they will be brought to your table.
Events and Activities
Disability Connect meetings
The last DC meeting was held on Tuesday 13th July '10, 2pm-4pm, at 1 Bayham Road, W13. The main topic was the DC Housing Charter. Housing is a major issue for disabled people. The system for allocating accessible properties is failing and so is the system for making existing properties accessible. The charter is now in draft form. A discussion on how we can effectively promote the charter took place.
Direct Payments User Group
The last meeting took place on 15th December '09. Gordon Crighton (from LBE’s Personalisation Team) gave an update on LBE’s plans for offering an alternative means of paying Direct Payments, which could be a pre-paid card scheme.
