Ealing Access Project

Supported by City Bridge Trust, Corporation of London logo. Access Project in 2007

ECIL has recently been awarded a grant from the City Bridge Trust, to work on the issue of access in Ealing.

The information below is  taken from the grant application.

Project aims

The aim of the project is to increase services and activities available to disabled people by:

  • making information available on accessible activities and services;
  • encouraging and supporting service providers, to gain an awareness of access issues;
  • widening accessibility to activities and services, through access audits and other practical activities.

Ultimately, the project aims to transform Ealing into a borough, which is a model of good access.  It will take practical steps to get value from the Disability Discrimination Act in three ways:

  • By gathering and disseminating access information on services in the widest sense in Ealing.  (This would include information relevant to all impairments, eg on steps, lighting, availability of information (menus) in a variety of formats, loop systems and communication access for deaf people and overall disability friendliness.)
  • By developing a clear idea of what constitutes and how to put in place ‘reasonable adjustments’, appropriate to service providers from all sectors;
  • By providing Access Audits and advice for services, from all sectors in the borough.

Volunteers needed
We have employed Daniel Stringer, as the Access Officer.  He has developed and maintains a directory of accessible restaurants and bars in Ealing, available on this website.  He will also be looking out for volunteers from the different parts of the borough, to collect the information for the directory.  So keep watching this space.
