Our Aims

Disability Connect aims to:

  • Create a coherent and democratic voice for disabled people within the borough.
  • Breakdown the barriers between impairment groups in accordance with the social model of disability.
  • Maximise opportunities for the participation of disabled people within the voluntary sector and the local authority sector.
  • Bring together disabled individuals and organisations to share ideas and resources.
  • Campaign for improved services for disabled people, both locally and nationally.

What we do

Disability Connect is currently working towards its fourth major conference, to be held in 2008, which will be focusing on the issue of employment and meaningful day time activity.

Disability Connect has produced a document, 'Action for Equality in Ealing', which is a series of ideas about what could be included in the LBE Disability Equality Scheme (January 2007).  Later in the year, we produced a Response to the LBE draft DES.  Copies of both documents are available from ECIL.

Also, Disability Connect has produced a booklet, 'The Squeaky Wheel' (December 2005), which described disabled people's experiences of using Ealing Social Services, which has been an effective campaigning tool. Contact ECIL if you would like to receive a FREE copy.
