Artisticus - The Arts at ECIL

Artisticus

ECIL’s Artisticus project allows ECIL and Carers’ Centre members to forget their problems for a couple of hours while they mess around with paints, write poetry, sing and perform - all in the company of friends.

Fridays 3.00 - 5.00pm at 1 Bayham Road
(Cost: £1 per session)

Supported by the Sage art group, our members can unlock their inner artist! You may not think you’ve any talent, but that is no barrier to enjoying yourself – and you may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

Our poetry & performance group members find fun, friendship and professional guidance on finding ways to express themselves. They often explore disability issues in what they do and they perform in front of friends and fellow ECIL members. If you think that sounds scary, you’re wrong! Ring 020 8840 1566 if you’d like to join in.

Mondays 4.30 – 6.30pm at The Carers’ Centre.
Term-time only

Come and have fun trying out your performing abilities! Led by Carers' Centre volunteers, ECIL members are currently devising a short show combining music, comedy and dance, to be performed to local groups.

A Christmas show, written and performed by ECIL members and staff, has become a fixture on the annual calendar. ‘Oliver Twisted and the Big Society’ was a satire on survival, working the system and asking for more.

Mary Gaughan & Sally O'Connor in Xmas show 2012

In 2011, ‘Dick Twittington’s Ball’ was ‘a funny sort of pantomime’, featuring a King Rat trying to catch out DLA claimants dancing “in a vigorous manner” at the Mayor of London’s ball.

Our Christmas 2012 production, ‘Scrooge's Christmas Special’, was a crazy compilation of sketches, songs and stories, taking a humorous look at the world of disability, caring and the cuts. Everyone has a lot of fun rehearsing, combining silliness with the discipline of learning lines and teamwork.

Para-Carnivalistas 2012 Artisticus at the Notting Hill Carnival

Following a successful collaboration in 2011, the Paraíso School of Samba invited ECIL members to again join forces with them at the 2012 Notting Hill carnival, wearing costumes used in the Olympic closing ceremony. Plans are underway for the 2013 carnival!
